Milling in Raffinate
The fourth phase of the Mumi solvent extraction and electrowinning (SXEW) project was a copper processing plant capable of producing approximately 100 ktpa LME Grade A copper cathodes through the treatment of 4.577 Mtpa of run-of-mine (ROM) ore containing 3.42 % copper and 1.0 % Cobalt.
The process route was an enhanced version of the Phase II and Phase III EW design and was specified to offer improved metal recoveries. The cobalt circuit was not modified in this phase.
The process route, which consisted of milling in raffinate, a leach circuit, a train of CCD thickeners, two solvent extraction tank houses and three electrowinning tank houses (with a nominal capacity of 100 ktpa copper cathodes), was defined by experienced SENET process engineers, in conjunction with Miller Metallurgical Services (MMS), a specialist Australian consultancy with many years of solvent extraction and electrowinning experience.
The Plant design and layout was developed by SENET engineers and designers, and comprised the civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation disciplines of the project.
